Email Industry Leader IronPort Shows its Commitment to Community with Junior Achievement Employee Volunteer Program
SAN BRUNO, Calif. - October 27, 2005 -IronPort Systems, the leader in email security, and Junior Achievement of the Bay Area, Inc. announced that today, October 27, 2005, San Bruno Mayor Larry Franzella will be the featured speaker at "Monte Verde Teacher Day" at IronPort Systems. The day is part of a partnership fostered by Junior Achievement of the Bay Area, Inc. to help local schoolchildren learn about free enterprise and the real world of business and economics. IronPort employees have volunteered to support teachers from Monte Verde Elementary School in San Bruno, California by teaching K-6 students about the importance of business, entrepreneurship and economics.
IronPort Junior Achievement volunteers will host Monte Verde teachers on site at IronPort for a day of touring the company, learning about the volunteers' business, and discussing the Junior Achievement programs. With the help of volunteers from companies like IronPort, Junior Achievement delivered K-12 standardized program curriculum to nearly 16,800 students in San Mateo County and more than 93,000 students in the greater Bay Area during the 2004-2005 school year.
"I am very excited to see San Bruno's schools and teachers working with Junior Achievement to partner with our corporate community members, such as IronPort Systems. Bringing business and teachers together to educate on the elementary school level is unique to Junior Achievement and promises to enlighten our children to real-world opportunities and practices," said Larry Franzella Mayor of San Bruno, California. "Junior Achievement deserves congratulations for their efforts in bringing together business and educators. With companies like IronPort taking the time to lend their skills to both our children and educators, I believe the efforts can affect real benefit and change in our community, and I'm proud to be a part of it."
"Last year, I had the opportunity to spend time as a Junior Achievement teacher. It was a real eye-opener for me. It was obvious that the program and the volunteers make a difference to the kids—shaping the way they perceive and pursue education and business," said Scott Weiss, CEO and Co-Founder of IronPort Systems. I'm thrilled that IronPort has the resources and dedication to provide this kind of support."
"Junior Achievement is proud to be a part of the great relationship between IronPort and Monte Verde," said Linda McCracken, President of Junior Achievement Bay Area. "In addition, IronPort gives students access to a real success story—a thriving business with employees dedicated to make a difference."
